November 22nd-Dec 8th, We had a week off for Thanksgiving, but I was still working on Emerging Technologies because it seems like it's just a part of everyday life. Over the holidays while we were visiting with friends and relatives. I had to car problems and used my phone app to get a new battery out to me. While using the app I was able to track his arrival time, so I was able to stay in the dorm and work on assignments until I saw him getting closer on the app. At the same time, I was looking into Waymo transportation to get to the Auto store. Waymo cars are self-driven vehicles, you could say use a lot of different Emerging Technologies. But I decided to set up Triple A instead because a part of their service is installing a new battery if your battery is killed.

One thing I'm learning from this class are useful workflows like LinkedIn. I hadn't used that before for work, but I've found it really useful lately. This week this popped up below and it's been very useful at helping me with interviews. Instead of searching all over the internet trying to find useful information, in LinkedIn it's all condensed into a more usable format.

This is a link to my new LinkedIn address:

November 15th-22nd, we were given an assignment this week to interview a classmate, and I chose my brother because he's attending DVC. We actually have a class together for only the second time in our lives. Basically, the topic for the last two weeks was doing this interview with him and finding out more about Ai. After researching this topic for questions, I realized there was a lot more to it than what I realized. The topic led me down a few bunny holes. One of the Ai features recently that sparked interest was Character Ai. I asked my brother about this and apparently it is a moving trend. A lot of people he knows have been trying it out recently.

Some other questions I had for him were about ChatGPT and other Ai technology. Personally, neither one of us trust Ai so we don't use it other than to double check our work or to verify data input and then some at work also. He wasn't interested in having ChatGPT write papers for him or take tests because it seemed less authentic and sucked the joy out of writing and learning. I think the biggest problem these days within our generation is this deep seeded fear in failure.
November 8th, 2024. This was a crazy week because of the elections, especially the presidential election. In Emerging Technology class, we have been discussing these various software platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Twitter is a technology that Elon Musk controls, so I was curious how much he manipulates the data. I'm quite sure Musk has the ability to coerce his employees into altering data like algorithms for his own agenda. At any rate speaking of Musk and technology apps I worked on an assignment for class this week to design and app in wireframe:

I had a hard time at first but hopefully I am closer to understanding what it is I should do for this assignment. I did really poorly at first, which was a first for me. Usually, I'm pretty good with this type of thing. The app is supposed to be for disadvantaged people so I thought it would be interesting to have an app for people who couldn't see. There would be vibrations and sound haptics to cue them. We'll see how this grades out.
November 1st, 2024. This was an interesting week at SF State and my classes there. I was talking with some of my other classmates about a class I was taking there, and they were having similar issues also. They told my check into this website called RateMyProfessor and when I found that I realized that it's a great resource for knowing more about the teachers at the college, I looked into my teachers and the one I have for Emerging Technology class has good ratings.
The Emerging Technology class we kind of had a difficult assignment. I couldn't really figure out how to approach it. But I ended up using various software to get it done. I used this type of free Cadd software and Ai software to give me some examples because I was a little confused on where to start. Ai helped explain in a little more. It's nice to when you add in features to the software to sort of program it in specific ways that identify with your own special needs and have it talk to you and do voice recognition. I created the drawing then uploaded the image to Ai and asked it to verify the image or review it and it took the image and recreated it in way that made more sense. So then i went back to Cadd and reworked it and then exported it out to Adobe and I then used a different type of Adobe that was better at adding a link:

October 23rd, 2024, recently had to work on a documentary for a project at SF State that was supposed to be about myself. It was a bit strange, but it helped in way because I had to use various software and various forms of communication platforms. The Emerging Technologies class helped me some with this assignment actually because I was able to use LinkedIn, which I learned about while doing an assignment. I also used Discord to communicate with a group of people and then LinkedIn to look into some Adobe editing information. I didn't have a lot of time to do the project with all the classes and work so I probably put only 2-3 hours of work into it but I think it's pretty decent, here is the video:
It did get me thinking about how there was a time not too long ago that this wouldn't be possible for just the average person to go onto their phone and make a video like this in 2-3 hours, it's a bit surreal sometimes thinking about how much technology has changed over the years.
October 17th, 2024. This week in Emerging Technology we learned about Digital and Media literacy which I find fascinating at times. Mainly because it wasn't that long ago, I didn't even have an iPhone or computer when I was young. I started with a Nokia flip phone. Now we have access to a lot of information immediately at our fingertips. I feel like that's been a good thing and bad thing. I feel like the events on January 6th is a good indication of how things can go wrong with some people when having too much access to technology.

Or more recently with the comments made about Haitian people in Springfield, Ohio stealing people's pets and their eating cats and dogs. Even though the mayor and 95% of the community is saying this is all some made up story, it still becomes a big issue because it severely impacted that city, it's citizens and the Haitians in particular. They were getting death threats and bomb threats at the schools and government offices.
There have been so many instances occur throughout history where people have taken advantage of because we didn't have enough information, but then is too much information in the wrong hands a potential nightmare also?

October 11th, 2024
This week in Emerging Technology class we had to produce a video for an assignment which was a fun and interesting assignment:
Mostly what this assignment was about was using a Montage of photos in a storyboard to help develop a narrated video. I used Adobe Premier Pro and my new iPhone to help develop the video. I wanted to try different techniques like superimposition to see if I could get it to work. I also wanted to try and develop certain emotional appeal to the video. I think that's the one great thing about videos and movies is that they are great way to convey a message. The fun part about it is that you can use your own artistic creativity to convey that message. An example of that would be Avant Garde used in film. Although it isn't quite my thing it is a good example of how art can have an impact on cinema. One of the biggest Avant Garde films that had an impact on me was Metropolis
For the period of time, it was made, which was about 100 years now, it was quite the film, especially with the color and shot composition.
This week in Emerging Technologies we are trying to find other social media platforms to get signed up with. I am really enjoying this class because I am finding it really useful for life skills and to help with work and education. Although this week was terribly hot in Walnut Creek, so I didn't get a lot done this week. It was in 100 degrees for several days!
The other thing that got me behind this week is the elections. I've been going down this bunny hole, watching all these videos on Trump and Harris because of the elections. There are so many new ways to access information about the news with different devices and outlets, but it's been really difficult to determine what is valid and what isn't.
October 2nd, 2024. This week for Emerging Technology we are working on our video from the storyboard, and I've noticed how these days a lot of the software used for film editing is becoming more and more savvy. I'm pretty amazed with how fast technology is going. Phones now are capable of so much more than they used to be. The new iPhone 16pro camera has some amazing features I'm trying out on the editing part of things. I typically use Adobe Premier Pro for videos but sometimes the phones are just more convenient.
At the same time, I created another album and posted on Spotify. I was able to earn around 400 dollars for the last album, so I figured why not, since I really enjoy it. Typically, I use FL Studio software because of the way it's laid out:

I create the sound mixes and autotuning on this software platform. I can basically make an entire from adding my voice to digital music with this and then upload it to a program called Spotify which pays you money if you can get enough people to listen to your songs or subscribe to your channel. This is my Spotify site where I upload my songs:
https://open.spotify.com/artist/4mOlw5zXLXrIrRIkp34Xj1?si=zoudqMUFREivka1I_yZuyg
This is what the new album cover looks like below. I used Adobe Photoshop for this one also but sometimes I'll actually hire artist from the college to help me with the new album cover. I'm hoping at some point I can find studio to sing in because my current living situation isn't conducive to singing at the moment. I used to have a studio and that helped quite a bit, but now I'm at the dorms. Perhaps there is a studio at SF State I can use!

The album also has my friends work in there also, we play music together sometimes and real instruments in the mix as well. Sometimes they bring in their vocals also. It's just a lot of fun using all these various forms of Emerging Technologies. I'm trying to just have fun with it and see where it takes me. But so far, the one thing I've noticed for sure it's that it's constantly evolving!
September 23, 2024. This week I have to work early in the morning at my job in Berkeley California using other forms of Emerging Technology. The City of Berkeley is conducting some type of research on a landfill out in the Marina. Our job is to drone the area in a grid, so they take that information and better map out the locations of environmental conditions.

I was thinking about Emerging Technology as an impact on this project and other environmental assessments. It's amazing we can take out drones and upload these aerial videos to help them assess the situation there. Once they get an idea of where some of these hot spots are for things like methane gas, they will then take a survey team out and locate these using a Global Positioning System or GPS. GPS uses satellite telemetry to create what's called a digital terrain model or DTM. Probably a handheld Trimble device as seen on the photo to right, below:

Once they are able to get a DTM they can they use then use that data to help mediate the locations. Several different forms of technology will be used during this project.

One interesting aspect of one of the drones is that it's capable of autonomous navigation or self-driving capabilities. When we go out and try to map out an area we can tell the drone to follow us with a beacon attached to us. It has remarkable spatial recognition while navigating objects. This has been very useful in some situations like seen below:
Should be an interesting week, I'm looking forward to this week, even though I have to get up at 5:30 am to get the Marina in Berkeley!
This Week for the week beginning on September 18th, 2024, I was able to create a storyboard in Emerging Technologies class. This class has some really fun projects and I'm really glad I took this class now. I'm learning a lot from my assignments so far. One of my favorite parts of this process was figuring out how to get superimposition to work on my image. Here is what it looks like:

A storyboard is really just a montage of photos that tell a story. I found this interesting because while going through this process I realized that sometimes images can say more than words and language. A lot of times an image tells a lot about that particular moment in time, much like a painting or drawing can and sometimes even more. However, when we collect a montage, we can then invoke a certain feeling or convey a certain message that one single snapshot cannot. The other significant factor in creating a montage or storyboard is the order of the shots. One particular order may not translate the same as another order. For example, in the image above if I put this image in the beginning of my storyboard it would tell a different story perhaps and convey a different message than if I placed this at the end. Or in this image:

If this image on the right, was put at the beginning it can show that life is good and going well. However, if it is placed at the end, it could show conflict resolution. It could then invoke a totally different emotional response at the beginning compared to the end.
I enjoyed messing around with this concept, something the Russian film makers started doing many years ago with people like Sergie Eisenstein. Although now, a lot of his concepts are used today in American films. It's surprising, considering how strict the Russian government was at the time for Cinema or any kind of art, but he did have significant influence in the arts and film industry still. Here is the video I am working on for the final storyboard assignment portion, you can see how this video would tell quite a different story if the montage had been ordered differently.

Hello, I am Tyler Winland, and I have created a new blogging site. I am a currently a student at San Francisco State University San Francisco State University (sfsu.edu) and I am majoring in Cinema. My whole life I have enjoyed the process of storytelling and creating unique experiences. I started out in sports and enjoyed the atmosphere in entertainment, and this led me to the path of I'm currently on.
TRyan Productions was something I started a while ago o once I picked up a microphone and started to perform in venues with a band me and my friends put together. Previously I had been attending Diablo Valley College and worked in an internship for the film department which then allowed to work the school on projects. During this time, I developed close relationships with co-workers, and we began working on projects outside normal business hours which led me to further expand some interest we had. Together over the summer we worked on various videos and showcased our work, this is one of the pieces of work we recently sent to a film festival: T.Ryan - Frozen Over (Official Video) (youtube.com).
Because of our work on this, recently I have been awarded a scholarship from a foundation that will help me continue on this journey. It's been a lot of fun, and I hope to continue to learn more as I go along. There is nothing better than doing work you love to do.
Below is what I learned from my First Semester at SF State from my class Emerging Technologies:
I learned in a world that is constantly evolving and adapting to new challenges, it becomes crucial for individuals to equip themselves with the tools necessary to navigate through these changes successfully. Among these tools are the Four C's - Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. Let's delve into each of these essential skills and explore how they can empower us in a rapidly changing environment.
Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information objectively and make reasoned judgments. In today's fast-paced world filled with information overload, critical thinking helps individuals sift through the noise, distinguish facts from opinions, and make informed decisions. It encourages us to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and consider different perspectives before drawing conclusions. By honing our critical thinking skills, we become better problem solvers and decision-makers, essential traits for navigating the uncertainties of a changing world.
Creativity

Creativity is the fuel that drives innovation and progress. In a world where the only constant is change, being able to think creatively is a valuable asset. Creativity enables us to approach challenges with fresh perspectives, think outside the box, and come up with innovative solutions. It nurtures imagination and originality, encouraging us to explore new possibilities and embrace change rather than fear it. By nurturing our creativity, we not only adapt to change but also actively contribute to shaping the future.
Collaboration

Collaboration is the cornerstone of success in a world where interconnectedness is key. In an era characterized by globalization and digital connectivity, the ability to work effectively with others is paramount. Collaboration enables us to leverage diverse skills and expertise, pool resources, and achieve shared goals. By collaborating with people from different backgrounds and disciplines, we gain fresh insights, broaden our horizons, and foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding. In a rapidly changing world, collaboration is not just an option but a necessity for progress and growth.
Communication

Effective communication is the glue that holds the Four C's together. In a world where information flows ceaselessly and interactions span across borders, communication plays a pivotal role in conveying ideas, building relationships, and fostering understanding. Clear and concise communication is essential for sharing knowledge, articulating thoughts, and fostering collaboration. By mastering the art of communication, individuals can bridge cultural divides, resolve conflicts, and drive positive change in a world that is constantly in flux.
By embracing the Four C's - Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication, individuals can equip themselves with the essential skills needed to thrive in a changing world. These skills not only help us adapt to new realities but also enable us to shape the future we want to see. As we navigate through the complexities of an ever-evolving world, let us remember that the Four C's are our compass, guiding us towards success, innovation, and resilience.
Remember, in a world that is always changing, the Four C's are the constants that will help us navigate the uncertainties of tomorrow.
The ultimate goal of this blog post is to empower individuals with the essential skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. Through the Four C's - Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication - we can adapt, innovate, and succeed in a world that is in a constant state of flux. Let's embrace these skills and embrace the opportunities that change brings.
